Don´t worry, it will feedback to the narc that you are doing well, they keep an eye on these things- so spare yourself an ordeal, and live your life to the full- that is punishment enough for the narc. It still won´t make any difference, the narc will stay a narc, but he/ she will rue the day they let you go, how dare you make it without them. You just ruined their weekend- I call it karma. Please learn about the disorder so you can see why I say this, and why staying away from narcs or your escape if you have already fallen into the narc trap, is the only option if you want a happy life. Since every narc is broadly the same, one book will do it. I always recommend Prepare to be Tortured (the price you will pay for dating a narcissist). AB Jamieson, on Amazon as being the only book you need to read. It is a good general guide and will tell you all you need to know, without psychobabble, and it covers narcs as friends and colleagues and relatives, which is useful – there is a lot about it. lots of relatives who visited most weekends, and wanted to put their barbecue and outdoor furniture there. As it was the beginning of this pandemic and everything was shut down, I told him I didn’t think this was the best time to go looking for a motorcycle when we are supposed to be “social distancing,” I would not be able to take a motorcycle class as we did not know when they resume, I was going to be getting out front yard xeriscaped in a few weeks and would much rather put the money toward what I was going to pay for the yard, and I don’t have health insurance at the moment. I thought those were pretty good reasons. His reply, ““Well, I think this is a great time to look for a motorcycle because we can probably get a good deal. He rolled over and went to sleep. Feelings hurt. About 3 weeks later,it’s my birthday. He’s super excited to show me what he got me. Brings me out to the garage to see my new motorcycle. I couldn’t say anything. I felt like I would sound like an ungrateful jerk. He’s going on about what an emotional experience it was for him as he drove this thing home because it brought back some good memories. The only thing I said was I wouldn’t ride it until I have health insurance. Here we are 4 1/2 months later. Still in a pandemic. No motorcycle class. I’ll have health insurance starting next month, October. He did go buy himself a motorcycle 6 weeks later and I pointed out to him that clearly he bought me a motorcycle so he could feel justified in buying himself one. As if that was even necessary. I wouldn’t have cared. But I am pissed that bought me something that I said we shouldn’t get as a birthday present.
